Jerome L. Goolsby is member of The Sons of The American Legion through his late father's Vietnam Era U.S. Navy service. He has been a member of S.A.L. Pony Express Squadron 359 since 1997. He has served the Squadron as its' Commander from 1998-2001, 2002-2008, 2009-2010 and is the Commander for 2010 - 2011. In his first four terms as Commander, the Squadron was "Over The Top" in membership each year, and was "Over The Top" again in 2010. In 2003, the Squadron was the co-winner of the Outstanding Squadron Award for the Detachment of Missouri. He also served as Western Vice Commander of the S.A.L. Detachment of Missouri for 1999 - 2000 and 2000 - 2001 and as Assistant Adjutant for 2009 - 2010.

Mr. Goolsby is a dual member of the S.A.L. and The American Legion. He served in the USAF from 1975 - 1995 retiring in 1995 as a Technical Sergeant. He became a member of The American Legion through his active duty service during the Lebanon/Grenada service period. During his USAF career he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal [with one oak leaf cluster], the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal [with five oak leaf clusters], National Defense Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal along with other decorations.

He has served his Post as Historian in 1995 - 1996, 1997 - 1998 and 2009 - 2010, as 1st Vice Commander from 1998 - 2000 and as Adjutant for 2000 - 2008; Mr. Goolsby has also served as 4th District Historian for 1998 - 2000, 4th District Southern Vice Commander for 2000 - 2002, 4th District Adjutant for 2009 - 2012 and as 4th District Commander for 2002 - 2004 and 2006 - 2008. Mr. Goolsby also served as Chairman of the Joint Veteran's Committee of St. Joseph, Missouri in 1999 - 2000.
